01/18/03 at 8:10pm

WELCOME    I'm Gursavski, and I've been an AVID enthusiast of the Plymouth/Dodge Trans-Am  racing teams for over 25 years. I enjoy this web site and all it's racing photos and general info and am pleased to moderate this forum. Let's hear from you!

If your into old road race MoPars- wheres the other 1970 cudas and challengers? I see coverage on Ken Epsman's car, but not much on Garry Savage's 'cuda. What about the others- do they still exist? If not ,what happened to them?

Im not sure where you are looking on the site but I dont have too much info on either car on Transamcuda.com or the board here. GurSavSki is writing an article now to post and I was waiting to gather more info before I put anything up at all as there is some info that isnt very accurate and I dont want to post anything mis-leading or incorrect. Keep checking back and if you have any ideas or would like to submit something please do. Thanx

Thanks for your interest, SposerTA.

Ken Epsman races his car mostly on the west coast, at numerous vintage venues.
See: http://historictransam.com/Drivers/KenEpsmanChallenger.htm

Ed Skanes owns the Gurney AAR that Gary Savage drives and shows the car at select shows and vintage race events.

The other AAR race 'cuda known to exist resides in France and is raced regularly in European vintage race events.
See: http://dodgerphilou.chez.tiscali.fr/cudafr.htm

(this webpage is in French, but if you do a google search for ' dodgerphilou ',  you can get a translated version.)

Rumor has it that the teamcar to Epsman's Challenger is being 're-fabricated' and will re-debut sometime this summer.

Allegedly the 'cuda wrecked at St. Jovite still exists. Its whereabouts has never been disclosed following some sticky business regarding legal ownership.

If any one has good information regarding any of these factory cars, or the Brock Yates "Sunday Driver" Challenger, or the Roy Woods Racing Barracudas, or any other roadracing MoPars, please e-mail me through this forum or post it here.

 Thanks.       GURSAVSKI

How about the T/A drag race cars, does anyone know what happened to the McAllister car or have history on any of the others? Hamberger ran a T/A, and so did Paul Rossi.

Did anyone run an AAR on the strip back in the early seventies?

I'm not sure if your question really falls in this forum  area , but the only AAR that I recall in NHRA on a national level was raced by a guy named Steve Hahn. I recall he raced in F/SA in 1977 or so, and NHRA refactored his car; raised the rating of the engine output to 325 hp from 295 hp.(Or something along those lines.) CAR CRAFT magazine mentioned him in their "Fine Lines" E-body feature in a late seventies issue ('77 or '78, maybe).

I don't know what happened to the other cars you mentioned; anyone out there know?

Well I finally had some time to look this one up and discovered my memory isn't what it once might have been. Sad embarrassed Grin

Steve Hahn was the guy. He competed in I/S with the AAR and ran, at that time, a best of 11.91 e.t. with the 325 hp rated engine. He also ran a 360 cid 1974 Barracuda in I/SA at the same time.

Also,  this appeared in  the " Fine Lines -- E-bodies " article in CAR CRAFT, May 1978.

Again, if anyone knows of any others (T/A's or AAR's), please post it here.  Thanks!

I guess it is time for me to join this site.  I am the Crew chief and all around restoring for the Cuda and the soon to be finished second Posey Challenger.  Our crew is Ed Skanes and his son Brian, Rich Geis, and Me   David McGaughey (Viper Dave).   We are working on the Second Challenger and hope to have it done by this fall but if not we will make the first showing at the Rolex 24 hour race during the 24 minutes of Daytona that is part of the pre-race ceremony.   We have been doing this exibition each year for about 8 years now,  alternating between the Gurney Cuda and the Petty Kit Car Prototype Challenger.  I hope I will be able to provide a lot of information on all 3 cars and I will be taking pics of the engine compartment next week before we put the engine back in the Cuda.

Hello David! Welcome aboard. Anything and everything you contribute to this forum is greatly appreciated. I'm not sure if you remember me, but I met you, Richard Geis and Chris Brown in 1995 at the Watkins Glen Trans-Am Reunion. That was quite a weekend.
Some of us are impatiently waiting for the debut of your Challenger. Please keep everyone informed of the progress of the restoration and date of the debut. I hope to see the car this fall at the Lime Rock Vintage Festival on Labor Day weekend.
Again, welcome aboard!!

John.  I sure do.  I sent you a sepperate E-Mail to say HI.   I will keep you informedon the Challenger.  I just came back from Ed's.  We put the motor back in the Cuda.  It is a real plesure and Pain in the A**  ( butt) to work on but I wouldn't want to have it any other way.   I can't wait till later this year when we redo a Superbird.   Later   ViperDave

So...When are we gonna see some pics of this trouble-making Challenger?  Is it gonna be ready for Lime Rock? I'll be in Monterey this weekend for the Historics...Ford's the marque this year (100 years and all) Haven't heard much concerning the Euro-Cuda other than big plans to restore to 1970 looks.  We'll see. A bunch of the Boss 302's are changing hands.  Most cars are now west coasters!

It looks like Daytona at the 24 hour race will be the introduction of the Challenger.   We are now 99.9999% sure that Kens car is the original #76 and was used as the backup car and raced a couple of times that year but not with posey driving.  That means that we are doing #77 and there were differences in the two cars.  It meant some changes to what has already been done. We want to do it right so it will take a little longer.  After we get the Challenger done we will be working on my 71 Charger SE that I bought new and still have and we will soon be getting a Superbird to restore.  Looks like some welding will be required along with rebuilding the driveline and new paint.   I will be a long project but it depends on how things go.  We took 7 1/2 months to do Kens car and that was only part time and 2 1/2 months to paint the body.  I will be taking pics of the restoration of the Challenger, Charger, & Superbird.  I just got a new  digital camera with hi resolution so they will be better than the ones I have taken before.  I also got a new Nikon 35 mm to take pics for our Photo album.
I will keep everybody informed on here as we progress.
